On board fencing erected at St. Nicolai Church, Nic Wilson expresses his thoughts on sorrow and gaps in history. Whose grief do I bear and how do I express it?

In public art on his continent, Wilson sees monuments that recall a painful colonial exercise of power. With cameras, the artist captures the voids that exist in these objects. Wilson highlights the holes as a way to manifest narratives that are missing in art, including those of queer people and indigenous populations.

In dialogue with the church, Wilson also connects to his interest in apophatic theology, which believes that full knowledge about God cannot be achieved. "God can only be described in negations. The language and comprehension of humans are quite simply not enough", says the artist.
