Two people are living a simple life on a mountain slope. They rest, think, play and sing – and munch on an apple. Here stands their cottage. But appearances are deceiving. This idyll is the forecourt of hell. In the Bible, there is the Fall. In Dante’s Divine Comedy, the Inferno awaits.

Peter Johansson has created The Garden of Eden as sculpture, moving images and occasionally even a theatre piece. He points out that the word piece can mean both theatre piece and artillery piece. The forecourt of Hell is located in Dalarna, where the orange-red base colour of the Dala Horse sets the tone.

Johansson has spent over thirty years exploring Swedishness and its expressions, everything from falukorv to racism. He wants to inspire laughter – and open a passageway to reflection.
